12 breweries in Brussels you should visit

Important information!
January 2024: BeerSecret has written a new blog post.
So make sure to read this updated blog post:
“7 breweries to visit in Brussels”,

There was a time when Brussels was synonymous with a handful of breweries and beer styles: Belle Vue, Gueuze, Cantillon, … However, starting in 2010, there’s been a decade-long boom of new breweries. Here’s a brewery tour you can follow for yourself. Starting more in the north of the city, right next to the Brussels canal, following towards the south and to end up in the city center.

Don’t know where to start? Well, we visit several of these breweries during my Brussels Summer Tour, known as BXL SUMMER TOURS. Check it out!

1. Brasserie de La Senne

A superb refreshing beer

Let’s start off with the brewery that started it all: Brasserie de la Senne. In 2010, Brasserie de la Senne was the first new “Brasserie 100% Bruxelloise”. Their philosophy? They are located in Brussels, so they brew beers for the city of Brussels. Tourists and locals alike, when you are in Brussels, you should try a beer by Brasserie de la Senne.

They have a wide variety of beers: Zinnebir (Belgian Pale Ale), Zenne Pils (Unfiltered Craft Lager), Stouterik and some seasonal beers.

Flagship beer: Zinnebir is their most famous one (which we usually taste during our all-year-long Brussels brewery tour, since there’s an amazing story behind this beer).

Address: Drève Anna Boch 19/21, 1000 Brussels

2: La Source

La Source is a very cozy and creative microbrewery that has a wide variety of beers. IPAs, sour & wild beers, seasonals, barrel-aged or classic styles, … There’s something for everyone’s taste.

Make sure to visit their bar: they have 5 taps connected to their very own service tanks – assuring that you have the freshest beers you can find in Brussels.

Flagship beer: L’Epervier

Address: Dieudonné Lefèvrestraat 4, 1020 Brussel

3. No Science

Just cross the street and you’ll end up at No Science, run by a single person. Again, look at the names and the design of the bottles! At No Science, they look for inspiration in the alternative music genre (Dirty Boots, Da Funk). Unsurprisingly, the story of No Science started in a few of the most popular bars in Brussels. Maxime began brewing in his own kitchen, brewing beers he liked and bringing them to the bars he worked. And apparently, others enjoyed his beers as well.

Flagship beer: Noisy Pale Ale

Address: Dieudonné Lefèvrestraat 37, 1020 Brussels

4. De La Mule

Joel, a former brewer of De La Senne has opened his own brewery only 1 year ago, yes in difficult times.

Joel started brewing at De La Senne but decided to set up his brewery one year ago. Of course, it was more than challenging to start a brewery from scratch in 2021.

Walking from No Science to De La Mule will take some time since this brewery is up in Schaarbeek (the other side of the Northern train station).

But it’s worth the walk. The beers of De La Mule are more German-inspired than what you might find in Brussels. And trust me: you’ll enjoy Joel’s sunny beer garden.

Flagship beer: De La Mule Saison
Address: Rubenstraat 95, 1030 Schaarbeek,

5. Brussels Beer Project Dansaert

6. Brussels Beer Project Port Sud

Brussels Beer Project, know as BBP, set up their first brewery in Brussels in 2013. They are very accessible (sometimes 7 days a week!). They started their brewery in the infamous Dansaert street, right in Brussels’ city center but now they have another site at Port Sud, making them the largest brewery in Brussels (with a capacity of 35 000 HL).

If you visit BBP today and return the next week, their offer might have shifted. They brew a few new beers monthly – with popular ones joining their All Star collection. Most beers are IPAs, which I like very, very much.

We’ve write a blog post about this brewery, as they were one of our partners of our beer boxes.

Flagship beer: Delta IPA – it started all with the bitter Delta IPA in 2013. Even though my favourite one is their Grosse Bertha, a mix of wheat beer and triple.

Address: Antoine Dansaertstraat 188, 1000 Brussels

7. La Jungle

We might start to sound like a broken record, but check the label on the bottles of La Jungle. Christophe opened his brewery in 2021, during corona, to start experimenting with their first brews.

If you can visit La Jungle, do it! It’s located in a hidden garden.

Flagship beer: La Jungle saison (a new label since recently!)

Address: Klein Eiland 1A, 1070 Anderlecht

8. DrinkDrink

This one is especially interesting for those who enjoy a beer after a good bike tour. You’ll see so many bike references when entering the magical world of DrinkDrink that only opened its doors in 2021.

Since cyclists are their biggest fans, they created a non-alcoholic IPA. Definitely visit Jean, Pierrick and Frederick when you are in the neighborhood. But make sure to check their visiting hours beforehand.

Flagship beer: DrinkDrink Pale Ale.

Address: Paapsemstraat 123, 1070 Brussels

9. Beerstorming

Make your own beer with Arthur from Beerstorming. This isn’t like anything you’ve seen before. Beerstorming isn’t a traditional brewery with gigantic kettles. Instead, you’ll find a 100-liter brewkettle where you can create your own beer.

Learn more about the malts and hops that fit your specific taste preferences.

Flagship beer: the one you’ll create.

Address: Alsembergsesteenweg 75, 1060 Sint-Gillis

10. L’Annexe

Those who already took our guided tour know that I am very fond of L’Annexe. We have a partnership with them and we always go there during our all-year-long Brussels brewery tour.

If you are looking for a non-alcoholic alternative? Then go out and visit L’Annexe where they create – aside from delicious beers a wide variety of tonics in their fermenterie.

As many breweries do nowadays, L’Annexe collaborated with 10 different breweries to celebrate their anniversary: Vandekelder, Cohop, and Beerstorming, … just to name a few.

Flagship beer: Saison de Bruxelles

Address: Metaalstraat 19, 1060 Sint-Gillis

11. Mazette

Mazette, located in the Marolles, is something unique. You cannot buy their beer in any store. It is only available at their brewery. It all fits in their philosophy to build a sustainable brewery that produces zero waste. You cannot buy cans or bottles, there’s no takeaway, so they do not produce any waste.

You can enjoy their beers (5 days a week) with bread that they bake themselves – with some amazing toppings.

Flagship beer: Suur de Bruxelles, made with sourdough instead of yeast!
Address: Place de Jeu de Balle 50, 1000 Brussels

12. Surréaliste

Close to BBP, in an abandoned warehouse, you’ll find Brasserie Surréaliste which opened its doors in 2021/2022.

You might have tried a beer from Brasserie Surréaliste. For 4+ years, they outsourced their brewing activities. They were called a “beer firm” for a long time.

Now, thanks to outstanding sales, marketing, and design (I cannot stress this enough: check the design), the hottest bars in Brussels serve their beers. Now, I am so glad that Surrealiste has a brewery, in the heart of Brussels.

Flagship beer: Surrealiste (Pale Ale)
Address: Nieuwe Graanmarkt 22-23, 1000 Brussels

So, now you’ve been introduced to all the hottest breweries that Brussels has to offer. There are dozens more, but that’s a story for another blog post! And see: as I told you before, Brussels is much more than traditional “Gueuze” and Faro.

Now we’ve talked about these trending breweries. And you have two options:

So will you visit the breweries alone or do you rather have some expert guidance?

Well, you can visit them together with BeerSecret during our BXL summer tours

That’s why I, Liselot of Beer Secret, will take you on a tour to visit all these brand-new breweries, scattered across Brussels. We select the best beers and you’ll meet at least one brewer who will answer your beer questions. And you’ll uncover the fully Brussels beer scene.

As mentioned above, also for the Saturday of the upcoming month (August 6) , you won’t find me in Ghent. Instead, I organize the Brussels Summer Tour where I take you to two (!) brand-new breweries.

Register quickly because spots are limited!
