What we'll do
MORNING

Start Your Adventure

Your guide will pick you up in Bruges and set the scene for the day with stories of Belgium’s rich brewing traditions. On the way, hear how the monks of Sint-Sixtusabdij Abbey began brewing, and why Westvleteren has become one of the most sought-after beers in the world.

The Home of the World’s Best Beer

At the abbey itself, we’ll take a short walk around the grounds, with time to visit the small chapel and reflect on its peaceful atmosphere. Then it’s straight to In de Vrede, the abbey café, where you’ll taste all three Westvleteren brews—paired with local cheeses and charcuterie. This is your rare chance to enjoy the “world’s best beer” right at the source. Get ready to savor the history of Trappist beers!

Countryside Brewery Lunch + Guided Tour

Indulge in a flavour-rich Belgian lunch surrounded by the peaceful landscape. Let the calm of the countryside set the mood before exploring a unique brewery that uses only local hops—grown partly in their own hop fields—and enjoy 2 curated tastings.

AFTERNOON West Flanders Experiences: Choose Your Guided Tour Path

1. Family-Run Hop Farm

Step into the heart of Belgian brewing heritage at a warm, family-run hop farm in the village of Proven. Walk among the hop fields, meet the passionate growers, and discover how this essential ingredient shapes Belgian beer. Depending on the season, you might even taste fresh hop shoots straight from the soil—an authentic glimpse into rural life and Belgian beer culture.

2. Flanders Red Ale Brewery

Immerse yourself in the world of Flanders Red Ale at a characterful brewery where nearly 300 oak barrels quietly transform young and old beer into this iconic regional style. Includes three tastings of their signature blends.

3. Historic, Old-School Brewery

Discover an iconic family brewery that revived a historic site after both World Wars. In 1980, they went against the lager trend, crafting rich, complex high-alcohol ales from eight malts. Explore their old-school setup—open brew kettle, copper coolship, century-old heat exchanger, open fermentation—and discover a brewing tradition almost lost to time.

4. Flanders Battlefields & Ypres Beer Bar (switch from beer to rural!)

Explore the serene Flanders Fields and visit the Passchendaele WWI cemetery, the resting place of thousands of Commonwealth soldiers. After 1.5 hours, Liselot switches back to beer — her true expertise 😇

Then head into Ypres to a charming, award-winning beer bar, listed among Belgium’s must-visit beer spots. Enjoy Liselot’s beer-focused insights, savor two tastings, and soak up the venue’s unique atmosphere and historic charm. And don’t forget: these are all perfect moments to expand your Untappd list.

End your day with A Toast to Belgium’s Beer Culture

As the day winds down, we’ll raise one last glass to everything you’ve discovered—from rare Trappist brews to the traditions that shaped them. On the way back to Bruges, your guide will share tailored recommendations so you can keep exploring Belgian beer long after the tour ends.
