Full program May: La Source & De La Senne
Before the tour starts, you may need to take the opportunity to pass by En Stoemelings, where to try their delicious collab-beer Zuur or another low-alcoholic brew. (We’re not promoting this brewery visit to toxicate you before arriving at La Source;))
For our first edition, we’ll take you to a neighborhood that has been fully revived: the Tour & Taxis area.
Mathieu Huygens, co-owner of La Source will pour you a fresh beer out of one of the 5 brewing vats behind the bar at their brewpub. A refreshing new concept for Belgium. You will be served the freshest beer at a bar in the entire country.
The brewpub opened in 2019 in the beautiful space of Be-Here. This space underwent a thorough restoration and now hosts an organic market as well as several other young businesses. With a larger capacity there is room for new creations. Such as the three brewing “eggs” for sour beer.
At La Source they try to be a green business as much as possible. Their beautifully designed cans are much more lightweight than bottles, reducing greenhouse gas during transport.
After our first tasting of the day, we take a walk through the Tour & Taxis park, learning something more about this new area for green businesses in Brussels. We take a peek in the indoor food market and make our way to the next brewery: De La Senne
Yvan de Baerts of Brasserie De La Senne tells you about his motivation as a brewer, his love for the city and the evolution of craft beer culture. You’ll learn all about good beer and the time it takes to make it. The brewery was found in Halle in 2003, under a different name, but moved to Brussels in 2010. It was always their desire to move here and now they have their own brewery, shop and fab bar at the Tour & Taxis area.
Baerts is a true beer buff, specialized in old Belgian brewing techniques.
They currently have eight permanent beers, three seasonal beers and up to seven collaborations a year. Their style is a mix of German, English and Belgian inspired beers. Most of it goes to bars and restaurants rather than retailers. Owner Yvan Baert has always said that Brussels doesn’t have a soul without bars!
After some more tastings and inspiring stories, the tour has come to an end.
